Working with Kelly Reilly has to be a blast. Rip, played by Cole Hauser (R), had fans worried going into the explosive finale, only for his long-running love interest to be thrust in harm’s way. I remember doing that scene, and it was powerful. Lloyd has always been his older brother in a way. You get to see this relationship between Lloyd and Rip. It's a beautiful scene, shot beautifully.

It's a powerful scene that resonated with the viewers. It's this moment where a very masculine guy is trying his best to express a more sensitive side. I was thinking about a scene from a couple episodes back where we see Rip release a horse into the wild, so it can be free. But it's an honor to see where Taylor can take this character and see how people are responding to it. It's not easy at times because it pulls at your heartstrings, even when you're doing it. It's giving him the opportunity to not just be black and white. Taylor is writing, I think it's the highest level for him. I was saying to someone else today, you're always looking for that role where you have many different colors, and this is that role. This has been such a great season for Rip because we've gotten to see such a softer side to him? This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity. Hauser hopped on the phone with Esquire (prior to the revelations in the finale) to discuss Season Three fan theories, what a future with the equally eccentric Beth Dutton might look like (provided she lives), and whether Rip gets his revenge on a man he thought he sent to the "train station." Coming into the Season Three finale, fans feared that Rip might meet his maker, but the real danger was for every important person in Rip's life. But is that really sustainable anymore? After Rip went to his mother's grave to dig her up (!) and get her ring to propose to Beth (?!?), things got real dark in Rip's world. With Rip set to officially enter the Dutton family tree after proposing to Beth (Kelly Reilly), Hauser's character has flexed a bit of a soft spot over this season's ten-episode run. 'Yellowstone' Finally Reveals Why Beth Hates Jamieīut Hauser's journey with Rip has taken quite a turn in Season Three.Beth's Big Reveal is Reshaping 'Yellowstone'.'Yellowstone' Promises a Bloody End to Season 3.He knows that she can’t have children, but he doesn’t know why. Well, she has a secret, doesn’t she, that Rip doesn’t know about. Should we be worried that she’s so self-destructive, she could turn that fear into a reality? TVLINE | Beth remains convinced that one day Rip will resent her because she can’t give him a biological child. And just in the fact that John Dutton helped Rip when he was a kid on the ranch and she fell in love with him then, there’s something poetic and beautiful in that. Is that maternal, or is that just being compassionate? I don’t think she’s going, “Oh, this is my child for us to go live happily ever after with.” She’s just thinking that here’s this kid who is just like her man, who has nothing, and if she doesn’t help him, he has no life.

I think you can just care about a kid who is lost and has nothing. I’m not sure it is maternal instincts, though. TVLINE | It’s pretty charming to see Beth’s maternal instincts come out. She sees that for Rip, it would be wonderful for him to have a kid in his life that is similar to him. Does it last for very long? Because Taylor Sheridan has other plans for Beth, it’s questionable. And it’s really lovely to see Beth happy. I’m not saying that domestic bliss is necessarily real happiness, but it’s a tonic to the life that she’s had. We’ve had a little window into seeing her potential for real happiness. She’s playing it cool, but she really wants it to work out. TVLINE | How important is it to Beth that this family she’s trying to form with Rip and Carter work out?
